Should you take engagement photos? This is one of the biggest “should we” or “shouldn’t we” questions I get when chatting with engaged couples. As I always say, it’s up to you! I am definitely not here to say how your day should look, but I am here to make your vision come to life. If you are on the fence about engagement photos, here are some reasons why you may want to take them.
Decor
Engagement photos are a great way to decorate your wedding day. The most common way is to print your photos, frame them, and display them on your welcome table. Oftentimes, couples use their photos as part of their guest book or other guest signage. My husband and I decided to order playing cards with one of our engagement photos and we absolutely loved it. If this sounds like your type of thing, check out Yetelegant on Etsy. If you invested in some engagement photos, why not show them off?!

Get to Know Your Wedding Photographer
Now, this may not apply to everyone, but I recommend using the wedding photographer you hire as your engagement photographer as well. Wedding days are extremely busy and your photographer is going to be there for a major portion of your day… following you around, sneaking photos, and directing you during portraits. Meeting a couple during an engagement shoot prior to their big day often leaves them feeling more comfortable during their day. Engagement photos can also seem like a very thorough practice run before wedding portraits!

Just Because
Engagement photos (and photos in general) are nice to have just because. Photos are considered a luxury item and it’s nice to document you and your partner. In the age of camera phones, professional quality photos are a valuable thing that not a lot of people decide to invest in. I mean who doesn’t want to pause time through professional photos?

I hope this helped to provide clarity to all my engaged couples out there. There’s no right or wrong answer at all when deciding on engagement photos.
